Smashed to Perfection: A Visit to Doe Burger in San Jose
A Burger Adventure Awaits Ever find yourself craving a burger late at night, but all the good spots seem to close early? Enter Doe Burger, a hidden gem in San Jose that’s ready to satisfy those late-night cravings with its unique take on smashed burgers. But is it worth the adventure? Let’s dive in.
The Burger Breakdown We kicked things off with a double Doe Burger and a side of smashed fries. Now, if you’re not familiar with smashed burgers, they’re basically patties that are pressed down to create a crispy, thin exterior. Doe Burger takes this to heart, offering patties that are nearly paper thin, which definitely adds to the texture. The first bite was intriguing! However, I found the flavor slightly lacking, giving the burger a 7.5 out of 10. It wasn’t bad, but I expected more punch.
On the flip side, the smashed fries were a standout. Crisp on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside, they earned an impressive score of 8.9. The addition of chopped chilies and a signature sauce elevated the flavor profile significantly, making each fry a tasty treat. The contrast between the fries and the burger was noticeable, and I could see why some patrons rave about this combo.
Atmosphere and Experience Let’s talk about the vibe at Doe Burger. The restaurant features a glass kitchen, allowing diners to watch the magic happen as the cooks smash those patties. It’s a fun touch that adds a bit of entertainment to your meal. However, I did notice that the staff seemed a bit off, which could be a hit-or-miss depending on your experience. Plus, the location feels a bit isolated—like it’s tucked away in a corner of the universe. If you’re expecting a bustling atmosphere, you might be disappointed.
Despite its quirks, Doe Burger is open until 2 a.m., making it an excellent late-night spot. If you live in the Bay Area and are yearning for a smashed burger fix, it’s a good alternative, especially given the scarcity of similar joints compared to places like L.A.
The Final Verdict In summary, Doe Burger has its highs and lows. The smashed fries are a must-try, and if you’re a fan of thin patties, you might enjoy the burgers more than I did. However, the lack of flavor in the burger and the somewhat peculiar atmosphere might leave some diners wanting more. If you’re in the area and looking for a late-night bite, it’s worth checking out, but don't go in with sky-high expectations.
So, would I recommend Doe Burger? If you're in the mood for something unique and you’re not deterred by a few quirks, then yes! Just keep your expectations in check.
